Porcelain Crowns

March 31, 2015 By Donna

porcelain-veneers-illustration-300x226When it comes to helping restore and protect teeth, brighten a smile or anchor a dental bridge, there is nothing quite as helpful or versatile as a porcelain dental crown. Porcelain dental crowns are a tooth shaped cap that fits securely over your existing tooth, creating a new surface, biting surface and support for a problematic tooth. This natural looking dental product helps people with a myriad of dental problems.

If you have a tooth that is weak from decay, or a tooth that is broken, fractured or cracked, a dental crown can cover that tooth entirely, protecting the root to save the tooth. If you have a tooth that is worn down from grinding, a cap can be secured to give new life to your smile. Sometimes when a tooth has too many fillings or a large filling, the integrity of the tooth is compromised simply because there isn’t enough natural tooth left to support a healthy tooth; a dental crown can be used to save such a tooth.

Porcelain dental crowns are commonly used to hold a dental bridge in place or to replace a missing tooth when a dental implant is required. Many dentists use porcelain dental crowns to help cover severely miss-shaped or discolored teeth. With so many uses, it is easy to see why dental crowns are growing in popularity. It is important to find a dentist that is experienced in fitting and creating porcelain dental crowns. Properly sized, properly colored porcelain dental crowns can be a picture perfect addition to your smile and bite. Ask your dentist for examples of porcelain dental crowns they have made for other patients.
